Preach about God Tomorrow

Is God in your sermon notes for tomorrow? Or do you have a more relevant message?

It’s amazing how often you can site in some churches and not hear anything about God. I’m thankful the church I attend isn’t like this.

Years ago I attended the funeral of a young girl. The woman pastor gave one of the best speeches I’ve ever heard. But it had nothing at all to do with God. I remember leaving and talking to my pastor as we walked to our cars, and saying how all those people, many of them who rarely darken a church door, just walked out without hearing a thing about Christ.

Sometime I ask the same question about Christian rock/rap music. Often times, you can go a whole album without even hearing the word “God” or “Christ”.

However, is it the sole responsibility of the pastor to talk about Christ? Shouldn’t all Christians be equally liable? How often do I mention Christ to people every day? Week? Year?

Personally, my scorecard isn’t that great.

I think leaving God out is a common problem with any genre of “Christian” music you care to cite. Having said that, I don’t think you have to have “God” or “Christ” in a song for it to be considered Christian.

And yes, it is certainly the duty and (should be the) joy of every Christian to tell others about Jesus. But if a pastor does not do this, we should not be surprised if the congregation follows his lead.
