Spirit of X-Mas

November 29th, 2003

C.S. Lewis wrote about the difference between X-Mas and Christmas. This story shows the spirit of the season for most people, which has nothing to do with Christ at all.

local6.com - News - Woman Knocked Unconscious By Wal-Mart Shoppers

A 41-year-old woman was knocked unconscious and then trampled by a mob of shoppers who continued to step over her as she suffered a seizure during a Friday sale at Wal-Mart in Orange City, Fla., according to Local 6 News.

Dang copyright is cramping my style

November 14th, 2003

Last night we had the first frost the year. Yes, it’s mid-november before it gets that cold — this is souther Georgia, after all.

Anyway, I went out about 11:00pm or so to bring the plants in. It was a beautifully clear night. Looking up at all the stars, the song How Great Thou Art suddenly popped into my head.

This afternoon I went looking for the lyrics to post them here. I went to CCEL and checked the hymn section, and found this:

This hymn from the “Baptist Hymnal, 1975″ is still under copyright.

Now, doesn’t that just suck?

Gift Idea

November 13th, 2003

Buy me a Huey UH1-P for Christmas and I’ll be your bestest friend forever.

I love how it says: “NEEDS BLADES AND ROTOR HEAD.” “Hey Amber! I finally found something to do with those chopper parts!”

(Thanks Mike)

Toby and the Candle

November 9th, 2003

Last night Amber and I noticed Toby in the hall bath, staring at a candle. The effect was creepy; gave the impression that he was conducting a seance or something.

Naturally we grabbed the camera and set it on the tripod to take a few pictures. Toby actually held still for some, moved around for others. Since the camera was on extended exposure because of the low light, it created some interesting effects.

Fireman and cops and medics, oh my!

November 6th, 2003

As I was leaving for work this morning — late again — I spotted fire trucks, cop cars and ambulances on the road just outside my neighborhood. On the short list of things of things you don’t want to see first thing in the morning near your house, a bunch of emergency vehicles has to be near the top of the list.

It was pretty easy to spot the problem: dark smoke rising from one of the homes on that road. I went back home and grabbed my camera, snapped a few pictures which I’ll post tonight.

I hung around for a bit. It doesn’t look like anyone was hurt, but I don’t know how much damage was done.

Folks, it’s a movie.

November 5th, 2003

Went to the 4:10 showing of Revolutions. I liked it.

Perhaps is because my expectations were lowered as a result of Reloaded, and the few reviews I read before going. Who knows? The first is still my favorite, and there are several things I wish were done better, but I thought it was pretty good, overall.

I re-watched Reloaded Sunday night. I liked it a lot more the second time around.

What gets me, though, is the venom with which people are attacking Revolutions. Folks, it’s a movie. If you don’t like how it ended, fine. Is it really necessary to insult everyone involved?

Probably so, since people are incapable of disliking something without making it personal. Me? I’m just glad I went to see it.

More site changes

November 5th, 2003

If you’re using Internet Explorer, the changes I made won’t look too nice. But hey, maybe it’s time you get a real browser.

Anyway, I’ve made a few more changes to the site layout. I like this better. The picture is one I took in a cemetary in Savannah. Thanks to Garrett for CSS help.

I’m playing with stylesheets. I’m rather unhappy with the current look, one of those cases where it looks different in my head and on the screen. Please hang on a bit.. 8)
